If you can truthfully say “NO!” to all these questions environmental management is not for you.
If “YES!” or “NOT SURE” then a structured environmental management system (EMS) could be your answer.
Environet’s experts have developed EMS in accordance with ISO 14001 for companies ranging from landfill operators, waste management companies, oil recyclers, ship bunkering, manufacturing companies and service companies since 1998.
Our philosophy is to keep the system simple and succinct - a tool that drives the organisations improvements.
We can help you with the following:
Our system has evolved into a set of structured flow charts to cover all
elements of the standard in an easy to understand and logical flow. These flow
charts can be easily modified to suit any organisations particular requirements.
The days of lengthy textual procedures are over!
Our Environmental Reviews include a gap analysis of your existing environmental management arrangements compared against ISO 14001 requirements. We identify relevant legislation and measure your current level of compliance. We identify your key environmental aspects and impacts.
We can assist with the drafting of your Environmental Policy to ensure it covers all the elements required by ISO 14001, and make sure it is appropriate to your business and your target audience.
We can drive the aspects/impacts “brainstorm” to assist in the identification and evaluation of all environmental issues. This is the backbone to the EMS and a key element audited by the external certification company – get this wrong and your EMS fails!
Any idea how much over complicated legislation there is relating to environmental protection – and there is considerably more EU driven red tape in the pipeline?
We assist by producing Enviro-Compliance, a tailored register of relevant legislation with brief summaries of the legal requirements where relevant to the organisation. This is generally updated on a quarterly basis to stay one step ahead of impending legislation.
Enviro-Compliance can also be an extremely useful tool for undertaking the Compliance Auditing.
The desired outcome of the EMS is to drive environmental improvements to meet the organisations business objectives and targets. We have developed an *.xls EMS action plan to identify and log all necessary actions – an invaluable tool for keeping on track and to demonstrate continual improvement.
Have you considered how you could improve? Are there risk areas where you could end up with hefty clean up costs from pollution or ground contamination? Are you throwing away waste destined for landfill – if so there is likely to be a far better and cheaper way!
You may need to provide your staff with some training on environmental issues e.g. general awareness, procedures relating for example to waste management or pollution control, or to train up your internal auditors.
Environet experts can provide tailor made seminars to suit.
Internal Audits are a requirement of ISO 14001 – the skill is to make them a positive experience where lessons can be learnt and improvements made, rather than a rushed paper exercise the day before the external auditor arrives!
Where you don’t have in house capability we can provide an auditor for your internal audits.
There are numerous certification companies out there, some are UKAS accredited, others are not. We have considerable experience working with Certification Companies and can provide you with valuable insight into how they work. Some are positive and provide useful guidance on improving the EMS, others have clipboard mentality where the big picture tends to get lost. Remember, you are the client, you call the shots and as long as you stay compliant with ISO 14001 you will retain your ISO 14001 Certification.
